Israel Confirms 2G/3G Shutdown by January 2026

On July 2, 2025, Israel’s Ministry of Communications (MOC) announced that 2G and 3G networks will be phased out by December 31, 2025, with all devices relying solely on these technologies ceasing to work from January 1, 2026.

This decision follows earlier steps: imports of 2G/3G-only phones were banned in 2022, and their network use restricted in 2023. The shutdown will impact not only older mobile phones, but also IoT systems, alarms, elevators, and other devices using legacy SIM cards.

The move frees spectrum for 4G and 5G services, ensuring faster, more secure, and efficient connectivity. The MOC urges users and organizations to verify device compatibility with LTE/VoLTE or 5G and to upgrade equipment as needed to avoid disruptions.
