Mexico New IFT-017-2023 – WLAN and Digital Modulation Equipment
The Instituto Federal de Telecommunications (IFT) has officially implemented Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023, the new technical regulation governing wireless LAN and digital modulation devices operating in license-exempt frequency bands. The rule applies to equipment using the 5150–5250 MHz, 5250–5350 MHz, 5470–5600 MHz, 5650–5725 MHz, 5725–5850 MHz, and 5925–6425 MHz ranges.
IFT-017-2023 took effect on November 7, 2025, replacing the relevant sections of IFT-008-2015 for the 5725–5850 MHz band.
Key Highlights:
- Accredited laboratories and Certification Bodies are already authorized to process applications under the new regulation.
- Applications submitted before the effective date continue under the previous Type B or Type C homologation process.
- Existing Type B and Type C certificates remain valid for their standard two-year period and may obtain indefinite validity if further info is provided before expiration.
- All new approvals for the listed frequency bands must now comply with the IFT-017-2023 testing requirements.
