Greats News! A notice is provided by NRCS South Africa about that they will start accepting IEC 62368-1 CB report and certification for ITE safety. You may refer to below notifications for more detail. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
ACCEPTANCE OF SANS/IEC62368-1 STANDARD AS AN ALTERNATIVE STANDARD FOR SANS/IEC60950 AND SANS/IEC60065 STANDARDS.
The Compulsory Specification, VC 8055 covers the safety of electrical and electronic products, includes the safety of Audio/Video (AV) products covered by SANS/IEC60065 and Information Technology (ICT) Equipment covered by SANS/IEC60950. In 2010, International Electrotechnical Commission published a new standard (IEC 62368) combining the safety requirements of AV and ICT equipment thus phasing out IEC 60065 and IEC 60950. Subsequently, all IEC affiliated National Standards Bodies and Test Laboratories (including SABS) adopted the latest version of IEC 62368 and discontinued testing to IEC 60065 and IEC 60950.
While the process of amending VC 8055 to refer to the newly adopted standard is still underway, the NRCS – CEO has approved the recognition of SANS/IEC 62368-1 as an equivalent standard to SANS/IEC 60065 and SANS/IEC 60950. This therefore means, effective 1st April 2021, the Electrotechnical Business Unit of the NRCS, accepts Test Reports that refer to SANS/IEC 62368-1 without issuance of a declaration of equivalence by applicants.
The Electrotechnical Business Unit management and staff wishes to thank you for your continued support in our endeavor to ensure safety of the South African consumers while supporting trade facilitation.
